MANUFACTURING - Testing: Automated Test Equipment Design Procedure |
The service we provide to successfully develop and test automated test equipment includes:
Product URS (User Requirement Specification) request from the client.
Full quotation submission stating the test equipment hardware, software, procurement, and project management cost.
- Client order.
- Order the test equipment hardware:
Custom-made test fixture BON (bed of nails) according to the product gerber files.
Complete PC that will serve as the main test interface between the operator and the product.
The necessary instrumentation cards needed to test the product functionality stated in the URS.
Label printer for printing a unique label for each unit indicating: product serial number, product name, product hardware version, product firmware version, and barcode.
- Test equipment wiring schematics design.
- Execution of the system engineering development process which include the test equipment
mechanical assembly, wiring, hardware testing, software development, and integration of the test equipment with the PC test software to establish a complete automated test system for the product.A standard qualification test procedure is executed next to qualify the equipment for production testing. This procedure includes the following:
- Repeatability Test Procedure:
One unit is tested 100 times to measure the consistency of the test equipment. The result is usually 100% pass rate.
The following test equipment calculations are performed:
Times tested: 100
Times passed: xxx
Times failed: xxx
Pass rate: xxx%
Minimum Test Limits (URS)
Maximum Test Limits (URS)
Minimum Deviation
Maximum Deviation
Standard Deviation
Average Test Results
- Coverage Test Procedure:
Each test is verified and monitored by removing certain components from the unit, testing the unit, and verifying that the test equipment will fail the unit on the relevant test. The component is fitted back on to the unit and the test procedure is repeated to verify a pass condition. This procedure is repeated for each test specified by the client in the URS to ensure the test equipment’s reliability, quality, efficiency, and performance.
Each test result is automatically logged in an export file. The qualification test procedure results are complied into a detailed engineering test report document illustrating all relevant results. The document is reviewed by our project engineer and the client, signed off, and the test equipment is then ready to perform high volume production testing.
- Reliability Test Procedure:
The individual test limits stated in the URS are forced lower than the minimum test limits and higher than the maximum test limits. Each test is verified to fail the minimum and maximum test limits.A complete manufacturing data pack is developed by the project engineer regarding the test equipment. The test equipment’s history, modifications, and maintenance information are updated in the manufacturing data pack throughout the entire life cycle of the product. The data pack is also used for test equipment remanufacturing if the volume of the product increases.
